#5 IL BREVETTO

 Samel Colt riuscì a mettere a punto e a brevettare la tecnologia della sua revolver nel 25 Febbraio 1836.

Precedentemente alle modifiche apportate all'albo dei brevetti degli Stati Uniti, il brevetto della "Revolving Gun" era il :"U.S. Patent No. 138", ora listato come  U.S. Patent No. 9430X.
E' facilmente recuperabile la versione integrale del brevetto depositato da Samuel Colt nel febbraio 1836 nella sua versione originale, il documento comprende diverse illustrazioni opportunamente contrassegnate e una breve e tecnica lettera che esplicita il funzionamento dei diversi meccanismi e le loro interazioni.

All'interno del documento viene spiegato nel dettaglio ogni disegno e componente.In tutte e tre le pagine di spiegazione del funzionamento fanno più volte riferimento alle figure, precedentemente contrassegnate.

Si propone un estratto del documento che spiega come scaricare la pistola, e quindi come, alla pressione del grilletto si comporterà la pistola: 

    "To discharge the pistol, by pulling the trigger the connecting-rod is drawn from the catch of the hammer, when the mainspring forces the hammer forward, the upper end of which strikes the percussioncap, during which the lifter, by means of lat eral motion to the left, falls below a succeeding tooth on the ratchet, when, by means of the lateral motion of the after end of the key which holds the cylinder, the pinpof the ham. mer is permitted to fall below it again. By repetitions of the same motion of the hammer the same effect is produced until each suc ceeding chamber is discharged."

In queste righe è possibile notare il principale vantaggio della tecnologia di Samuel Colt, ovvero il permettere di premere ripetutamente il grilletto per produrre "lo stesso effetto" fino a quando la "camera sia scarica".
